A tool demo shows you the polished path. Fifteen minutes with one real task tells you what switching would actually feel like.
Bring one real task, not a tour. Pick something you actually did last week with your current tool - a file you converted, a graphic you made, a report you pulled - and redo exactly that in the new tool. Tours and sample data hide the friction you will live with.
Time the first success. Start a stopwatch at signup and stop it when your task is done. Note every step where you had to stop and think, search a menu or watch a tutorial. A tool that takes 40 minutes to do a 10-minute job is telling you something.
Test the boring edges. The demo path is polished; the edges are where switching hurts. Try the export button, open it on your phone, share a result with a colleague. If any of those is part of your real work, a broken edge is a dealbreaker you want to find now.
Check what changes when the free tier ends. Limits that appear after a certain number of items, watermarks on export, or features locked behind the paid plan all change the decision. Know the limit before the limit knows you.
Decide with notes, not a feeling. Write down the time, the stuck points and the edge results. Then run the same task in your current tool and compare the two lists. Feelings about new interfaces fade by Friday; the notes stay accurate.
If the new tool wins on your real task, switch for one week before you move everything over. A week of real use confirms what 15 minutes suggested.
Every tool we list is one we would sit through this test with ourselves. See the full list on the home page.
